“Robot” takes on the CREATIVE CHALLENGE of makeup and effects

Producers of the new independent short ROBOT are planning to shoot entirely in downtown Westmont.

Producers are now reviewing shooting options in the MilkStop Location Manager and hope to have a shooting schedule in place by early February. The full cast and crew has yet to be announced however Robot will feature the incredible

Special Effects & Make Up of Dennis Preston.

Dennis comes on fresh off a string of horror projects, “the one thing that I have always loved the most is horror films and special effects, so I decided that make up effects and filming would be my main focus” says Dennis.

The creation of the robot character will be a new challenge to him. The character of ROBOT and the makeup will be a complex balance of human and machine, one that will need to convey “thought” without a full range of facial expression for the actor.

Dennis Preston has the mindset and experience to pull it off like few others.

“My job is to make the face and body of a very real and believable robot.  At the same time the prosthetic that I create will need to provide a channel for the actor to communicate to the audience through. A mask is easy. A prosthetic to communicate through is a collaboration of the makeup artist, actor and director. It’s something very specialized.”

From the first lines in the screenplay we begin to wonder and feel for the Serverbot named ROBOT. Opening excerpt:

INTRO

INT. DARK BAR AND CLOSE UP OF A ROBOT FACE. IT IS IN HUMAN FORM BUT LACKING THE DETAIL AND EXPRESSION TO MAKE IT SO. IT BLINKS IN IRREGULAR INTERVALS THAT ARE TOO OFTEN TO BE NATURAL.

ROBOT

I am a robot

There is a voice responding. It is the voice of Sarah.

SARAH

Yeah, I know

ROBOT

You are NOT!

We are excited to see what interpretation oozes from Dennis’s creative genius.
Dennis is currently preparing a live demonstration and educational session for guests of the Westmont Frozen Film Fest February 20, 2016  at Hollywood Blvd. in Woodridge. Stay tuned for updates.
